VET Student Loans

The VET Student Loan (VSL) program is an Australian Government assistance loan that helps eligible VET students, studying for a diploma qualification or higher, to pay their tuition fees. The Diploma In Aviation Courses offered by Fly Oz are eligible for these loans.

There are eligibility criteria including citizenship and residency requirements. Although a VET Student Loan (VSL) is a good initiative, there are certain aspects of the scheme that must be understood before going ahead with a government loan.The most important fact is that VET Student Loans attract a 20% fee, which is added to the course price. VSL is interest free.

Entry Requirements

  • Class 1 Medical certificate
  • Aviation English ICAO Level 6 or IELTS 6.0
  • Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC)
  • Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
  • Be at least 17 years of age.

Volume of Learning

The volume of learning allocated to a qualification will vary depending on the level of the qualification and the experience and competency of the student. Most students undertake this qualification as an extension to their commercial pilot licence course. As per the Australian Quality Framework, students must complete the allocated hours for the qualification they are undertaking in order to achieve competency. If the student applies for Recognition of Prior Learning or Credit Transfer, the volume of learning may be reduced.

Course Structure

This course is structured to ensure that students receive adequate training in AVI50519 Diploma of Aviation (Instrument Rating.) This includes 8 weeks of classroom and aircraft-based training of 27.5 hours per week face-to-face delivery.

The qualification is made up of 14 units of competency which consists of 13 core units and 1 elective unit all chosen by Fly Oz based in industry requirements.
